Melbourne Milan Design Masterclass ‘Soprammobile’
Sponsored by the Annemarie and Arturo Gandioli-Fumagali Foundation
Hosted by Industrial Design, RMIT University
19-23 May 2014
‘Soprammobili’ is the Italian word used to describe old fashioned ‘Knick Knacks’ – little products to be displayed on furniture.
A week-long masterclass lead by Milan based designer Antonio Arico the workshop explored notions of Knick Knacks, little practical products and other soprammobile typologies through design and how designers are re-orienting to be product manufacturers and suppliers of soprammobile to large design houses and manufacturers. The workshop looked to build reciprocity and linkages between Melbourne designers and Milanese artisanal communities.
The collaborative studio resultied in a design a collection of ‘little things’ by emerging designers from Melbourne and members of academic staff in the industrial design program at RMIT.
