“The myth of Pandora’s box has intrigued me since I was a child. The concept of keeping ‘hope’ in a box is a metaphor to which I refer often when I speak of designing. In 2009 I set myself the challenge to interoperate and design my own Pandora’s box for an exhibition in late 2010.
“Using prayer candles to sculpt the finial on top of the box I reflect on the thousands of prayer candles, which have helped form the mounds of wax in the table-trays before alters in chapels around the globe. In these mounds of wax i see the passing of time and the prayers that people send out into the etha. Grotesque and lumpy – hope can be.” – Simone LeAmon
